A number of benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. How does insurance work?
I am in network with Aetna and Optum insurance plans, however you can also work with me as an out-of-network provider. You can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Call your carrier prior to engaging in treatment to find out how much they are willing to reimburse. The reimbursement may not cover all the costs, but typically a significant amount is covered. Another option is to utilize your Medical Service Account or the Flexible Spending Account for your sessions. To determine if you have mental health coverage, the first thing you should do is check with your insurance carrier. Check your coverage carefully and find the answers to the following questions:

-
What are my mental health benefits?
-
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
-
How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
-
How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
-
Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Perhaps most important to consider is whether the therapist conveys that they will provide both a safe environment for open discussion and that they will offer new understandings which can lead to the changes you want to make in your life. In therapy we will work together to define your areas of strength and struggle and help you move towards making the changes you want to make.
